In summer of 2015 I began hosting a new radio show, “FM Mutations,” on 89.5 FM WPKN, Bridgeport, CT where I spun rock/punk/indie demos, covers, outtakes, and other rarities. Sometimes I also hosted musical guests. The show is was heard every second Saturday of the month from 7-10 PM Eastern. For a “demo” of the show, here’s the opener from the April 9th broadcast, where I review the new Ramones exhibit at the Queens Museum, talk about the HBO show Vinyl, and break down some of Richard Hell’s musical influences:
Outside of CT, FM Mutations was heard at http://www.wpkn.org/ and updated on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/fmmutations
Episode #1 was broadcast on 7/29/2015. It included all of the tracks below, plus “Black Angel’s Death Song” performed by Sonny & the Sunsets, and originally posted on Aquarium Drunkard.
On November 14th, 2015 I hosted “Radio, Radio,” a special Elvis Costello edition of the show in three sets. The show was inspired by Costello’s new memoir Unfaithful Music and Disappearing Ink.
SET 1: I recreate Costello’s great playlists from his guest DJ stints on KSAN.
SET 2: I play tracks from This Year’s Model side-by-side with songs Costello identifies as musical building blocks for that album.
SET 3: I spin my favorite songs about the radio and recording industry along with vintage radio jingles and promos from artists including the Who, the Clash, the Specials, and the Jesus and Mary Chain.
