Sound & Vision
This was my long-running music column in The Rumpus, featuring multi-media rich interviews with those whose work connects to music. Highlights included Tony Visconti, Nicole Georges, and Ken Freedman. You can find the full monty here.
My previous non-narrated audio portrait column, ALBUM: Portraits of artists and Writers at Work, is archived in the same spot. Among others it featured the tattoo artist Stephanie Tamez, the cartoonist Ariel Schrag, and the performance artist/playwright Deb Margolin. My favorite stand-alone print interviews include the musician Juliana Hatfield, the comic artist and writer Ali Fitzgerald, and the children's book author Tomi Ungerer.

So ON
I've often served as an ad hoc music and book critic for The Brooklyn Rail and the San Francisco Chronicle respectively. A few highlights include reviews of Chrissie Hynde, Nick Cave, and Kim Gordon. I made a cameo in the August 2017 issue of Glamour, where I talked about the true talent of guitar pickup winder Abigail Ybarra, and on the White Whale podcast where I spoke about zine culture. I’ve also recently given a webinar on interviewing for the Association of Independents in Radio, and I was featured in Music Journalism Insider #70.
& ON…
I’ve written about fun things for the New York Times for Kids including a compilation of weird ice cream flavors and playlists that “curate” the news. My personal essays (print and audio) have appeared in venues including Narratively, Bitch, and The Rumpus. And I'm included in the book Pen & Ink: Tattoos and the Stories Behind Them.
