I grew up in Philadelphia. Then I taught at Yale. Now I make stories about music, arts, and culture for NPR, The New York Times, New York Magazine’s Vulture, the Los Angeles Times, BBC Culture, Bandcamp, and more. I wrote the 2023 book Why Sinéad O’Connor Matters which you can order here. My profile of the composer Sorrel Hays appears in Overlooked: A Celebration of Remarkable, Underappreciated People Who Broke the Rules and Changed the World.

Here are some of the people I’ve interviewed and here are some who have interviewed me. Follow this link for assorted footnotes and miscellany. Listen for me on the radio, check out my webinar, or watch me eat a cheesesteak on TV. But please note that you won’t find me on social media. Try my contact form if you want to connect with me… or catch me on my book tour!
